Organizational Background
The AIM Institute is a nonprofit organization with a mission to grow, connect, and inspire the tech talent community through education and career development. AIM has fostered the growth of Omaha’s tech sector for more than 25 years. The organization helps fill the growing need for skilled workers in technology roles by providing training, education, and connections to empower tech professionals to enter and grow in the tech workforce.
AIM’s goal is to excite people about technology, inspire them to pursue a tech career, and help them navigate the tech career continuum. Because creating a more diverse and equitable tech workforce is critical to community success, AIM removes barriers to tech education and increases access to technology careers by providing scholarships, financial aid, and programming for young people. AIM focuses on making outstanding educational opportunities and career training accessible to all, with a focus on careers in data, programming, tech leadership, design, and tech infrastructure. AIM programs serve over 2,200 participants per year.
Position Summary
Reporting to the Board of Directors, the President & CEO will have overall strategic and operational responsibility for AIM Institute staff, programs, policies, and execution of its mission. The AIM Institute is seeking an energetic, experienced, and highly skilled President & CEO to work collaboratively with the staff and board to lead and support all areas of the organization. The major responsibilities of the position include:
- Promote a strong, effective and collegial relationship with all members of the AIM Institute Board of Directors
- Mange the AIM Institute staff and finances of the organization
- Develop and communicate a shared vision for the organization’s future
- Forge strong relationships with the tech community and the local education sector (K-12 and higher education)
- Serve as the organization’s brand ambassador and articulate the organization’s value proposition in order to increase public awareness for the AIM Institute in the Omaha community
- Cultivate strong relationships with the Omaha philanthropic community in order to ensure fundraising success
- Take initiative to expand the skills, knowledge and diversity of AIM Institute staff
- Maintain and report the financial performance of the organization to the board of directors
Professional Qualifications and Personal Attributes
The ideal candidate will have significant leadership and interpersonal skills, experience working with nonprofit organizations, business acumen, and an ability to understand and talk fluently about challenges facing the tech community.
Nonprofit Leadership Experience
- Five or more years of nonprofit executive leadership experience with strong skills in supervising staff
- Strong financial management skills, including budget preparation, analysis, and reporting
- Experience in fundraising, managing government grant compliance, and developing earned revenue programming
- Experience in program development and evaluation
- Previous experience reporting to or serving on a board of directors
Interpersonal, Leadership and Communication Abilities
- Experience optimizing an organization’s internal communication and building a strong organizational culture
- Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills with an ability to lead and coach a team of professionals from different cultures, mindsets and areas of expertise
- Strong written and public speaking skills
- External facing leader with a collaborative leadership style in order to build authentic partnerships between public, corporate, and nonprofit institutions
- Experience participating in effective Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion initiatives
Tech Sector Experience / Expertise
- Experience working in the tech community and/or knowledge of the tech workforce
- Passion for and interest in demystifying the tech sector for tomorrow’s workforce
- Entrepreneurial mindset with a commitment to embracing innovation to drive organizational growth and impact
Compensation
The salary range for this position is $150,000 to $190,000. The organization offers a competitive benefits package, including participation in an employer-sponsored health insurance plan, a generous Paid Time Off package, and other benefits.
